The 2010 Toronto International Film Festival begins today and I am [sigh] not participating this year. I could afford a fourth TIFF trip but could not in good conscience spend the money whilst unemployed.
If I [sigh] lived in Toronto, however, I would fight seven evil exes to see:
The Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen
Bruce Lee played him in Fist of Fury. Jet Li played him in Fist of Legend. Donnie Yen played him in a Fist of Fury television series and reprises the role in a film from the director of Fist of Legend.
Neds
Actor Peter Mullan (Trainspotting) wrote and directed a "personal, but not autobiographical" tale dealing in the gritty realities of growing up in 1970s Glasgow. Through a series of circumstances, a shy and intelligent young boy turns into a NED a non-educated delinquent. Attending a new school, he becomes increasingly violent and aggressive, all the while searching for a way out.
This Is Scotland?
The This Is England '86 mini-series sequel began airing this week in England.
The Trip
From the director of Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story: An edited version of an upcoming BBC2 comedy series "in the style of Curb Your Enthusiasm" that follows Steve Coogan (Tristram Shandy) and Rob Brydon (Tristram Shandy) on a restaurant tour through the English countryside.
I Saw the Devil
From the director of The Good, the Bad, the Weird: A borderline NC-17 variation on Dexter that pits Oldboy against Storm Shadow.
22nd of May
The director of Ex Drummer returns with an artful meditation on death and disaster. A security guard fails to prevent a horrific explosion in a shopping mall and then lives through the aftermath as a series of overlapping what-ifs.
