The Origin of Feces

The Sentinel, in theatres next Friday, looks like a cross between 24 and The Fugitive.

Secret Service agent Kiefer Sutherland tries to hunt down suspected mole Michael Douglas. Wrongly accused of targeting the president for assassination, Douglas must elude his former protégé, prove his innocence and find the real assassin.

Kiefer facing off against his mentor — where have I seen this before? Oh yeah… He's currently doing that on 24!

Moreover, this season on 24, Kiefer has hunted down a mole, been wrongly accused of targeting the president for assassination, proven his innocence and found the real assassin.

If 20th Century Fox expects fans of 24 to pay for a variation of what they can watch for free on Fox (and the studio obviously does), the production value should be superior. The helicopter explosion in the trailer, however, suggests otherwise.

Kiefer also voices Samson the lion in Disney's The Wild, in theatres Friday.

In this computer-animated comedy-adventure, an assortment of animals from the New York Zoo discover what a jungle the city can be when one of their own is mistakenly shipped to the wild and they embark on a dangerous mission to rescue him.

The plot of The Wild sounds awfully similar to that of DreamWorks' Madagascar. Of course, Disney and DreamWorks have tangled before (see: Antz/A Bug's Life and Finding Nemo/Shark Tale).

Next month, DreamWorks will release the computer-animated Over the Hedge.

Woodland friends awaken from their long winter's nap to discover that a tall, green "thing" has mysteriously cropped up right through the middle of their home. Beyond the hedge is the "gateway to the good life" where peculiar creatures called humans live to eat, rather than eat to live. Eventually, they learn to co-exist with—and even exploit—this strange new world called suburbia.

In short:
Madagascar = city animals in the wild
The Wild = city animals in the city
Over the Hedge = wild animals in the suburbs

Not content with undercutting Disney and Pixar, DreamWorks, evidently, decided to rip itself off.

I'd still rather see any of the aforementioned films than Cars.
